AMD 317 / Robert Mapplethorpe Reflection

Robert Mapplethorpe is a controversial photographer because of his use of a style that was undesirable to a wide segment of American society at that time, that is, before his death in 1989 at the age of 42 due to his infection with AIDS. The reason behind the controversy he aroused at the time, and according to my viewing of the documentary, was that Robert Mapplethorpe preferred to photograph naked bodies, whether women or men, especially the genitals and buttocks, in different, exciting and sometimes strange positions, and his boldness exceeded the boldness of film producers at that time because of his extraordinary boldness in taking photographs. Honestly, I enjoyed watching the video because I discovered new things I didn't know about photography. It was a fresh, candid look at an iconic and divisive figure, and the video highlighted a controversial artist who helped turn contemporary photography into art in every sense of the word.
